The Great British Seaside |

National Maritime Museum

This temporary exhibition at London’s National Maritime Museum showcases the work of photographers Martin Parr, David Hurn, Tony Ray-Jones and Simon Roberts and their documentation of the distinctly eccentric British seaside holiday over the last 60 years.

Elbow created several pieces for the exhibition; an atmospheric soundscape for the foyer, an ambient projection to set the scene for visitors on arrival, and a short documentary on each of the featured photographers, shot around the UK over the summer of 2017.  Each film, displayed at a wide panoramic aspect within a specially constructed ‘beach hut’ set, features interviews with 3 of the photographers, revealing more about their working practice.   The fourth film, centered on the late Tony Ray Jones, includes recollections and testimonies with location filming of his collection at the National Media Museum.

Elbow also produced the accompanying suite of social media films and teasers for the Museum’s marketing campaign, to run alongside the exhibition.
