Being Brunel | SS Great Britain
Nestled amongst renovated dockyard offices, alongside his most famous ship SS Great Britain, this ambitious new permanent exhibition focuses on the life and achievements of the legendary engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Elbow were thrilled to be part of the team delivering the visitor experience, producing a number of interactive and audio visual elements.
Highlights include the popular “Draw a Circle” challenge; visitors attempt to draw a perfect free-hand circle on a tablet… whilst on a moving train carriage! Elsewhere, we enhanced a Victorian styled “dining room” gallery with the inclusion of an evocative soundscape, touch screen games embedded into the dining table, and seamlessly looping “Talking Portraits”, where Brunel’s family are brought to life to describe their fond recollections of Isambard. The visitor journey is rounded off with a whimsical animation imagining what the modern world might look like without Brunel’s invention of the screw propeller.
